Resetting your password

You can choose to reset your own password manually from the sign-in screen on your computer. 

1. Select "reset password" on your sign-in screen.
    
2. Enter your email and verify the code you see or hear. 
    
3. Select "I forgot my password" option and click "next".
    
4. Choose your contact method for verification and click "next" when it becomes available. If you chose to use a phone number, you need to retype the number. 
   
    
5. Choose the second contact method for verification and click "next' when it becomes available. 
    
6. Enter the code you received through your primary contact method and click "next".
    
7. Enter and confirm your new password and click "next". Be sure to follow the password guidelines to move to the next step. 
   
    
8. Click "finish" to complete the process. 
   
    
9. Watch for an email from Microsoft that your password has been reset.

Read our full password guidelines carefully. Use the Microsoft Authenticator app as your default sign-in method. This is the best and most highly recommended sign-in method. It is more secure and helps protect against phishing. You do not need Wi‑Fi, mobile data, or cell service to receive codes after the initial setup. 

If you still can't sign in or don't know your username, submit a sign-in troubleshooting ticket. You do not need to be signed in to Tech Services to submit this ticket.

We understand that additional sign-in steps can be frustrating and inconvenient. Frequent authentication aligns with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) cyber security standards.  

These regular checks help stop attackers, even if they have your password, because they can’t access your device or verification method. If an attacker gains access to an account, these frequent sign-ins also help limit what they can do by reducing the time they have to use the account. 

You will be prompted to sign in periodically in accordance with our updated policies. We recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app for the fastest, most reliable sign-in experience. You can also check the "Don't ask me for 1 day" checkbox to reduce the number of sign-in prompts.

In spring 2026, a significant number of students and employees clicked on a malicious link in a phishing email. In response, ITS took immediate steps to help protect Sask Polytech accounts and systems, including password resets for some accounts and more frequent multi-factor authentication (MFA) prompts.

Password changes are a proactive security measure that helps protect personal information, institutional data, networks, systems and learning resources. These measures align with industry best practices and are guided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) or using multiple sign-in methods, e.g., passwords, SMS codes, app codes, or biometrics, adds extra layers of security. Think of it like having multiple locks or security systems on your house. The more you have, the harder it is to gain entrance. 

• For students, MFA helps protect your account, personal information and coursework.
• For employees, MFA helps protect Sask Polytech accounts, data, systems and institutional resources.

Yes. The Microsoft Authenticator app provides a faster and simpler sign-in experience. After linking your Sask Polytech account, you can securely approve sign-in requests from your mobile device. The app is faster because, once set up, it does not require Wi-Fi or cellular service to work. Using SMS text codes may be patchy, slow or not work in areas with poor cell service.

Returning students who do not currently meet password requirements will be prompted to change their password the next time they sign in to a Sask Polytech service.

New students are also required to change their password when they first access their mySaskPolytech account or other Sask Polytech services. This requirement is included in their welcome information for newly registered students.

Employees have already been prompted to change their passwords.

Cyber threats continue to evolve, and protecting student, employee and institutional information is a shared responsibility. Additional security measures such as MFA and strong passwords help reduce the risk of compromised accounts and help protect Sask Polytech systems, data and resources.

• Completing MFA prompts only when you initiate the sign-in
• Reporting suspicious emails and phishing attempts
• Helping students with password resets and sign-in issues when appropriate
